a little about me

Just wanted to say a big hello and welcome to my little blog!
(If you have followed me over from 'a mental mum's little world' then, extra big hello to you!)

I'm Melissa, a complete fruit-loop (and very proud of that fact!) and single-mum to 2 amazing kiddies!

My son (always known as Little Man here) is 9 and just full of energy! He loves playing on computer games, watching movies as a family, playing board games (especially Monopoly, as he always beats me!) bouncing on his trampoline and acting like a monkey -  his latest 'trick' is climbing up banisters instead of the stairs, or shimmying up the gap in a doorway, so that he can touch the ceiling - truly a complete nutter 😉

My daughter (Little Miss) is 6 and already very independent! (apparently so was I at that age - maybe a bit of karma acting here??) adores all things 'princess' and loves playing 'mum' to her numerous teddies and dollies. She creates wonderful worlds with her Happyland fairy sets, or the Playmobil playground set (that I used as a kid!) She is also a bundle of energy, and is often belting around the house, with her big brother, getting up to all sorts of fun and mischief!

My favourite times are when they have earned enough reward stickers to go out for a family treat (like dinner and a game of bowling) or just snuggling under blankets on the sofa, eating popcorn and watching a good movie on the telly (usually Disney, but they have inherited my love of the old musicals too!)

As with all siblings, they have their moments! But the majority of the time, you won't find a more loving, caring and fiercely protective pair then my scrummy 2!

We all live with my parents in a lovely detached house, in a town in West Berkshire, UK.
My parents are both disabled, so we all help each other - them with my kids and me with things around the house, like cleaning or as a carer for my dad.

As for me, I am just taking my first steps into a brand new chapter of my life!
I have had some tough times in the past; leaving my dream career of teaching; getting a divorce and falling so low down with the depression side of my Bipolar Disorder, that I still don't quite know how I found the strength to keep going! (I have been extremely fortunate to have the support of some amazing friends, but most especially my mum - she's my hero!!)

This blog is just one small part of my whole 'New Beginnings' change that has finally been made possible, thanks to finally having the correct diagnosis of Bipolar 2 Disorder, which was mis-diagnosed for the past 19 years. I am now in the process of discovering 'me' again - as it feels like I have just woken up from a 19 year sleep!

For the first time, in I don't know how long, I am no longer afraid of the future! I am trying new things, pushing myself and being braver than I ever thought possible!
I know that I will continue to fly along the rails of this roller coaster called 'life' - enjoying the ups and downs and the lovely views along the way!

P.S. in case you're wondering about the name for the blog 'Cloudy Days and Moonbeams' they just happen to be two of my most favourite things!
